Ode to a Christmas Cookie:
Thank you for all that you’ve done
Making the holiday season all warm and cozy
Giving me an excuse to bake all weekend
And a reason to get another mug of hot chocolate
Snickerdoodle, Chocolate Chip, Gingerbread
Goodness knows how many I’ve eaten
Over the course of every Christmas
Sugar, sweetness, spice
Going down between glasses of milk
A warm kitchen is one of the things I look forward to most during winter
Smells and heat emanating from the shelves and oven
Sneaking between the trays of baked goods
Grabbing a fistful of delicious, doughy, goodness
The Christmas Tree standing tall, surrounded by gifts
I sit beneath, gorging on the fruits of my successful hunt
Making sure not a crumb can be seen
Thank you, Christmas Cookie
For filling my holidays with sweetness, frosting, and happiness
Sugar, Pinwheel, Gingersnap
You have all helped fill my belly and my spirits
Once Christmas is over, I sit in the kitchen
Eating a biscuit, slowly
Waiting for Christmas to come again
Just so I can get a taste of that sweet treat
Have a good night!
